It is said that well separated burnable and un-burnable garbage can reduce the garbage as much as 20%. Don't know exactly how this could be so. But, it doesn't take you more than some seconds to think before you throw... Love the idea and practice. Do wish it would be an inspiration for a more proper and enforceable garbage disposal and collection system in Cambodia and even a replication for Cambodia at least some day, if not that SOON.
According to Nagoya Calendar, December 2008, the waste made from synthetic fibers, artificial leather and rubber (eg. clothes, balls, shoes, bags, rubber pipes, etc.) will be collected with burnable refuse from December 1. This is reasoned by Nagoya City aiming to reduce the amount of landfilled waste by letting it go through incernation process.

I have visited a waste refuse disposal facility in Osaka last summer. Some area has the refuses divided into 5 or 6 criteria. The more you separated the unburnable, the least complicated for facility workers, as sometimes they have to separated them by hand. I was surprised to learn that many China companies come for those recyclable wastes.
